There Is Only One Me, Too, Tay

*****

And, I am literally priceless.

I may find others who compete with your beauty and/or talent.  But, there is only one you.  And, there is only one exactly like me, even if I could be placed in some box with people exhibiting similar patterns, behaviors or whatever.  Whether I get to live a dream with you or not, I will go on, hopefully, happy to have this feeling about you in my heart.  If that good feeling sours and/or causes me pain, I will add it to the pile I must let go.  But, if the powers that be say it can be, we will have that moment, that life in the sun, together.

I have yet to adequately listen to your latest “hit,” but what I have heard is a good beat and decent harmony with the male singer.  I know this comes weeks, already, after all the buzz about the new release and all the “views.”  I will likely say more once I do give the song/album more time.

For whatever reason, it sounded like a message to me.  And, I took it that way.  It compelled me to write this, just a quick note for the lovely Taylor Alison Swift if she…you ever sees any of these.

Solution: A Whole Lotta Bull and a Little Girl

****

In recent news, there’s been some controversy about the little girl statue placed in front of the Wall Street bull, particularly from the Italian artist who made the bull statue.

I get the whole women’s movement thing.  [Personally, I’m sick of everything “feminist” being pink, whether it’s for an illness cure hunt or not.]  I also get why the man who made the bull statue is upset…though he DID technically deposit the statue illegally before it was adopted by its present location.  [So, maybe the word “hypocrite” creeps into the conversation.]

When I see the two statues together, I don’t see feminism.  I don’t see Wonder Woman.  I DO see how a little girl standing up to a big business bull might weaken the image of the business.  I mean, if the bull is charging ahead, and the girl is standing in the way…are “girls” the enemy of business?  But, the first thing that came to mind was the story known as “The Last Unicorn,” and how the unicorn-turned-damsel faces up to the big red bull.  THAT would be pretty cool to have somewhere.

So, in short, I offer a solution.  Perhaps someone has already had it and shares this with me.  What if the man who made the bull statue makes another one somewhere nearby, not on the same stretch of road, and the girl statue is relocated there?  The key to this deal is that the second bull statue needs to look just like the first.  Why?  So, we get both images, and people can draw whatever conclusions they want.  The business street gets to keep its ballsy, masculine image.  And, the “feminists” get their “girl power” standoff.

If you are among the “women” who are shaking their heads right now because you think relocating the image away from Wall Street defeats the purpose of the little girl, what do you think will be the value of the standoff when women DO earn their place in the business world…if that really matters in the big scheme of things.  Does the standoff remain a symbol of a fight for equal rights?  Or, does it remain a standoff between man and woman, instead of making peace between the sexes?

But, the more I think about two metal bulls, the more I imagine Greek myths…..like the Khalkotauroi in Jason’s quest for the Golden Fleece.

Ah, so many possibilities…

I like the standoff.  But, let’s put all parties involved at ease.

Jack-o-lanterns; What Do We Scare Off and What Do We Invite or Attract?

The original purpose of jack-o-lanterns was–like costumes–to keep bad spirits away on Halloween (or the Samhain/Celtic holiday).  But, over the years, people have carved all sorts of images in pumpkins (among other things) for Halloween lanterns.

So, the other day, I asked myself…

1) What do we scare off with a silly, happy or sad jack-o-lantern?

2) What do we scare off with a sexy or silly costume?  And,

3) If not scaring off, what do we attract or invite?”

Think about it.

What message are you sending to the spirits around you?  If you had control over this–and, I think, we do–what would you try to convey with your costume/lantern?

Ask yourself…

1) What do you need to keep away from you/your home?  Greed?  Gluttony?  Terror?  Crime?  Lust?

2) What do you want to visit/more of in your life?  Love?  Happiness?  Candy?  Money?

3) How do we convey these messages with costumes and/or jack-o-lanterns?

AND, 4) Who is this Jack guy who got his name attached to so many pumpkins, anyway?:)

Happy Halloween…or…Happy Costume (and Lantern) Day

Does a Stinky Message Smell as Sweet?

Well, how could it? I mean…I just said it’s a stinky message. Right?

But, what if you don’t see or smell the stench because others convince

you it’s worth the price of their resources? Suddenly, you’re more

interested in experiencing something with your own senses than

weighing the pros and cons. If all of your neighbors are jumping at the

chance–even if it robs them of their privacy, wealth and/or dignity–why

let the seemingly obvious warning signs stand in your way of joining

them?

When you join a club or website, do you give the name or any policy details any thought? Or, do you just join because others have, the meeting room/home page looks pretty or it’s the first place you found in a search for space to write out/share your thoughts?

Would an unpleasant name or rule insisting you humiliate/hurt yourself in some way stop you from joining? Or, do these not stop you?

When you see a commercial for a product involving real people sharing their enthusiasm, do you believe the person really supports, likes and/or uses the product? Or, do you dismiss this as (bad) acting and learn more about the product another way?

Do you listen to music for its beat while ignoring the lyrics? Have you ever heard a song that sounded good until you learned the lyrics upset your moral code? Do you pledge loyalty to a band/musician even if you don’t like all of their songs? Have you ever given up interest in a musician/band after hearing an awful song?

Is “trending” so vital to social interaction and acceptance that we forget

or ignore what is defined as negative, immoral and/or harmful? Maybe

you’ve heard some version of the expression: “If all of your friends

jump off a bridge, do you have to join them?” This isn’t revolutionary

news here, people. This has been going around since Eve sold herself

into evil’s service and gave a bad apple to her boy toy, Adam.

[In future posts, I will discuss two categories/examples, Music and Websites. Look for them if interested in reading more.]
