Fishy Fantasy Email From Beloved Tay

****

Sooo…I got an email the other day.  And, the subject was almost too good to resist.  THE Taylor Alison (or just Tay in my book) Swift was inviting ME to play a game with her…a game featuring her…or maaaybe an online game she would play with me?  But, when I daringly opened the thing, I found this…

suspiciousemail-G5-jungleadventure-ad_tay-swift-lookalike-teaser_ap-CSPP-750x1050-144px-2

Oh…the thought…the sheer pleasure of the possibility…

But, alas, I could not click that button.  Not because I did not want that gift…but because I could not trust the source.  If only one could visually make contact with Tay…like over Skype or something similar…and confirm this game/email was indeed from her.

Ah well.  I keep hoping for someday.

My First TV Crush, Caroline Ellis

*****

I am not sure what brought this back into my mind, recently, but I found myself tripping back to my young roots and the first TV shows I watched.  [Ya might take a guess at my age from this.]  I was about 4 years old when a show called The Bugaloos was on TV.  I am pretty sure I was four because there was a girl in my kindergarten class who had a hairdo much like the one “Joy,” the pink butterfly-girl, had.  I also knew a girl down the street who looked A LOT like Joy/Caroline (around the time Caroline supposedly had a child of her own, which would have floored me and broke my little heart back then).  And, if I didn’t already have a crush on the girl’s big sister–and if the little sister wasn’t so young–I might have given that little Sally Field-wannabe a second look.  Same bright smile.  Same sweet voice minus the British accent.  It was a look and a time; I tell ya.

If you knew me, it would not come as much of a surprise to hear I grew up watching A LOT of TV.  So many shows came and went, including The Bugaloos.  And, so many shows were “syndicated” (a word I did not know the meaning of for a long time).  They originated more than a decade before I would see them.  But, they were my first TV experiences.  Seeing Martha Raye as the “villain” of The Bugaloos…I now remember why I was so fixated with Lady Elaine from Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood; she had a similar protruding nose and complexion.  For so long, I couldn’t figure out why that nose stuck in my mind; it was Martha Raye’s character from The Bugaloos, Benita Bizarre.

And, when I first heard that theme song for The Bugaloos…and saw this breathtaking blonde girl fluttering around in a butterfly costume…I was on Cloud 9.  I was floating on air.  She was like an angel to little me.  I only saw maybe 4 episodes of the 17 that were supposedly made.  But, I just have to pull a clip up on YouTube (bless that video service) to zip back to those days of me in my fuzzy pajama suit and gorilla slippers……

[I remember watching The Great Spacecoaster (a few years later), and looked that one up, too.  I remember the little video screen long before we ever had a tablet with a slot you could fill with an SD card full of videos.   Just the sound that folding viewer would make when it started…and that old footage of “A Witch’s Day Out!”  But, I could not remember the brown-haired girl’s face as well as I remembered Joy from The Bugaloos.]

Can you imagine?  A boy just 4 years old having a hormonal reaction from this butterfly girl who wasn’t flashing anything but a brilliant smile, twinkling eyes, glossy hair and loooooong legs (before I even thought women’s legs were worth ogling).  [I’ve always been more of a face, hair and chest guy.]  And then I went to kindergarten and fell for a girl who was like a young Caroline Ellis, fighting over her with another boy.

So, why do I go on about this now?  Normally, I write a piece like this when it’s the woman’s birthday.  Well, as I said, it just came back to me.  And, here I am looking it–her–up online, finding out she’s only 67?  Gosh.  And, her astrology–aside from being a Metal Tiger year (sigh)–is great…and she’s 5 ft 9 in…  I would have been half her size as a kid, looking up at her like a giant angel.  I think I might have even dreamt of her as an angel in blue like the blue fairy from Disney’s Pinocchio.  And, now she’s practically my size.  Oh the places my imagination goes.  🙂

[I just watched the episode titled “Firefly, Light My Fire.  And, the moment the Bugaloos gathered around the fallen Sparky, my heart nearly exploded from my chest.  I remember dreaming of that moment as a kid, imagining I was Sparky, meeting the Bugaloos in their forest, being nursed back to life by Joy.  And, in the episode “Courage, Come Home,” seeing Joy sing that opening “fly away” song brings a tear to my eye.]

If you’re out there, long-legged Libra butterfly, Caroline, bundle of Joy, and you happen to read this, know that I listened to that interview you did when?   And, I agree with many of the comments people left below.  Your smile, your voice–even though you felt you were talking slowly (it didn’t sound that much slower than you talked in the interview)–that hair and that costume.  You were and still are a precious piece of my youth.  And, I think there’s still a spark of that magical girl still in you.

It wasn’t real magic.  I knew, even then, you weren’t really flying.   [Though I had no idea green screening was a thing back then; ‘laying on boxes?]  But, you were…are magical to me.  [And, it would not surprise me if I wrote a piece like this on this blog some years ago.  That darn deja vu keeps flashing in my head.]

I know you said you’re very private.  [I am quite private, myself, except when my heart yearns to speak like this.]  But, you also told the guy who did the interview that he should have sent a fan letter (even though he said he couldn’t get an address).  If I could, I’d write you a fan letter.  And, if you’d write me back, I’d keep in touch and travel back in time to being that little boy infatuated to the tips of my toes with that pink butterfly from across the pond……

Be Swift! The Day of Valentines Is Nigh!–er, Near!

*****

So, Valentine’s Day is just around the corner.  And, many of the good cards have already been plucked from their slots on those multi-layered display stands or shelving units.  But, fear not, there are a few gems left.  And, as a special bonus for the procrastinators, a collection of Taylor Swift notes for love/infatuation, loss/rejection of affection and words of caution to those you wish to protect or keep at a distance.

[Why Taylor Swift?  Well, it just so happens her birthday is Dec. 13th.  So, I thought why not whip these out on Feb. 13th?  I came upon this image of a biker babe who just happened to look a lot like her, too.  And, that’s what motivated me to create these.  Truth be told, whoever designed this biker babe went a little overboard with thinning her waistline.  That rib cage is dangerously depleted.  So, it’s not like I expect or think of Taylor or any woman so thin/emaciated.  I was merely drawn to the face and hair and came up with some clever use of the motorcycle.]

Warm Feelings

Cold Feelings

Cautionary Feelings/Advice

A few I just threw in because song lyrics came to mind when I pondered the image.  One is a Taylor Swift lyric.

And, a couple from a previous collection that fit this one.

**As an added bonus and/or special treat to Taylor (Alison) Swift and her fans, I have cooked up an amusing dictionary which I will be posting soon.  Look for it.**

On the Fifth Week of Valentines, Writingbolt Gave For Thee…

*****

The loving, lovely romantic (occasionally humorous or erotic) additions to the Zelda collection.  Otherwise known as…

SHE LOVES ME

We begin with the obvious, the classic love notes.  Nothing too deep to understand.  Plain and simple, they state the standards.

Followed by a series dedicated solely to the kiss, how to get one, the anticipation, the reward, etc.

legofzelda-valentine-kissme_ep-7-doppleganger-thatsmygirl-124_1400650-ap-1j

Uhp!  See?  A few of the naughtier ones slipped through the lot.  You’ll know them by the red triangles (Triforce of Power).

On that note, why don’t we just air the rest of those out, now?  [Warning:  Some of these might be more racy/lewd than you prefer.  Or not.  Enter at your own risk.]

Feeling a little sweaty or warm?  Well, cool off with these lighter notes.  See if you can find the humor in some of these.

I had so much fun with these next two images; I am giving them their own slots.

Now, for anyone who knows someone who has chosen their partner poorly, here are a few helpful warnings to pass along.

And, if you can’t pick one valentine (or Dragobete “love lock”), here are a few pleas in the spirit of sharing.

Lastly, when it’s overrr…that’s the time I…

Here Come the Valentines, Wave 2-017

*****

This week, I’m unleashing a mixed bag.  Caution:  Some of these are a bit adult (rated SL for suggestive language).  [One reason you won’t likely find them at your local greeting card store.]

First, a selection for anyone who’s a bookworm looking for a little loving.  Maybe you’ve been the object of someone’s gaze for some time.  Maybe you’ve been eyeing someone from across the library, bookstore or cafe.  Or, maybe, you are already the favorite read of someone and like to use some corny wit to express your gratitude.

valentine2017-youbelonginalibrary_sexylibrarian-pinup_heart-ap-1b

You know the old riddle/joke about a newspaper…

valentine2017-shadesofgray_sexylibrarian-pinup_heart-ap-4e

valentine2017-filedunderp_sexylibrarian-pinup_heart-ap-2b

Next, a flirty bit of bubbly, playing with the idea of a cork/corked bottle of enthusiasm.  Breaking the ice.

Something for the cats…

…and the bats…

And, a few for those who can’t find the words to cool someone’s jets, set them straight, open discussion about a surprise addition or keep the unwanted at a distance…

valentine2017-novalentine_blonde-cork-thefizzisgone_pinup-heart-ap-5

valentine2017-novalentine-youpeekablewitthisyear_peekablue-crying-she-ra_heart-ap-1

For women who have the power…to be grateful (or keep a secret).

And, for people who watch British TV at an odd hour.

A few for those who play games…

…and the rest?  I forget their names.

Valentine-o-shima, Day 1

*****

I warned you some weeks ago.  I didn’t realize how crazy I’d get putting these love notes together.  But, now I am feeling a bit short of breath as I scroll the tally.  So, to help alleviate the pressure, I am releasing them in big batches, at least once a week until Valentine’s Day.  I would not be surprised if there’s still overflow into Dragobete.  But, I think I need to curb my creativity and quit while they’re over my head.  What do you think?

I am thinking I will have these up for a limited time and then need to clear the history decks so I don’t have to scroll through so many pictures in one folder to get to what I need for other posts.

Now, onto the first wave…

A Coca-Cola ad from 1998 inspired this lot.

^ All of the above are variations on one message using a few different images.  Other cards will be grouped similarly as the “explosions” unfold.

^Impatience, alerting your date/friend you are getting ready to meet with him/her, etc.

^Thanks for a good time/date and appreciation of a smiling face.

^More variations on a delay of meeting for the day, running errands, saving the world, etc.

^Various faces and good surprises, expressions of stimulation, responses to voices, admissions of love, etc.

^Mixed thoughts splashed with humor, mostly pleasant, from both male and female perspectives, when couples converse, meeting someone new, approval of someone new, etc

.

^Sharing a drink,  metaphors for drinks, refreshing compliments, etc.

^Answering the call, responding to a request/need, bursting at the seems with excitement, etc.

^Random inclusion of Taylor Swift as this face shot had her name written all over it.  🙂  You see her making this face on just about every award show commercial.

^Mixed compliments, letting someone know you’re on your way, reasons for delay, rushing to the rescue, etc.

^The odd ones that may or may not fit in other groups.

^A request to meet somewhere private to discuss feelings (particularly when you don’t want to be having a personal chat on company time), contemplating calling/contacting that new face you just met, waiting for someone new/special to contact you, a flimsy excuse for not spending time with your beloved.

^Words of warning and reasons for upheaval, a breakup on the horizon, trust/hearts broken, questioning feelings, questioning someone’s absence, asking if someone is still speaking with you, etc.

valentine2017-pianomansurprise_supermom-always-cocacola-1998-3-15c_ap-2

Phew!  That was a challenge, just trying to group and lay them all out.  It’ll take a while for the smoke to clear.  But, I hope people will appreciate the effort and make use of these.

At the Relationship Crossroads

*****
I’ve come to the realization, more than once, that when I hesitate to move forward with a woman that sparks my interest, someone is lurking in my blind spot just waiting to beat me to the punch, spoil all my effort and claim the most costly of prizes (or cheapest, depending upon your perspective) as if it was always within reach. The long drive may be the promise of the sweetest things, but that doesn’t stop the fast and furious. And, at the same time, haste makes waste. Too many race to get the cup without checking under the hood and pacing themselves. This often results in devastating crashes and other crimes of the heart.

You may have seen it in a movie or one of the lewd cartoons polluting the airwaves these days. The “good” guy goes through the trouble of getting to know the woman, picking out just the right flowers and gift for a special day. Then, along comes Captain Jack Killjoy with one slick line and that irrestistable musk that drops Beauty faster than a Bela Legosi can raise an eyebrow, even though she tells you she’s not the type to fall for that crap. The “good” guy gets wind of what just happened, watches his flowers wilt and walks away with nothing (maybe a lesson learned if you’re that glass-half-full type). Some may crack their routine and join the rat race. The rest patch their tires and hit the same, old road one more time, looking for Lovers’ Lane, the best bed and breakfast in a serene neighborhood.

If you ever find yourself in a position where the one you want to spend your life with is heading far away for some time, don’t make any promises. It may be an epic romantic fantasy to receive love letters and reunite years later, but you could just as likely be the focus of a ghost story, waiting on some cliff for your love to return until you die of misery.

Maybe some day, I’ll be remembered as the genuine “road warrior.” Like the movies, that may be all that is remembered about me. All the sweat and tears I went through, avoiding car-wrecks and striving to stay in the right lane, may just be dust in the wind, along with all the rules and road signs the system tries to stick in our faces.

In the end, you go with your gut when you reach that same intersection that stopped me in my tracks. So, let me ask you. If you’re pursuing or riding with a love interest, are you coasting along Learnmore Road or racing down Efher Avenue?

My *Questionable* Pleasure (TV Show)

*****

Occasionally, I hear people on TV talk about their “guilty pleasures.”  I don’t like the word “guilty.”  Nor do I know what sort of guilt I should feel for watching a particular “reality TV” show which is both creative and humiliating, innovative and exploitative…  It’s a dirty trick on the mind.  It teases you with colorful images and fun games while abusing the participants who we are drugged to believe are willing players in a simple game.  [But, it’s not a simple game.  We are just duped like an audience at a Roman coliseum to root for either the lions or the gladiators.]

I am talking about CBS’ Big Brother.  I watch the show for a few reasons.  I tell myself it’s because I enjoy some of the competitions they invent, including the props.  I like looking at the interior decorating.  It definitely is a fun house design.  And then, there is the “beauty contest.”

Just about every year since its conception, I get roped into watching most of it.  Every time, I go through the same motions.  There is usually one pretty face I favor and root for throughout (unless she turns out to be a psycho bitch).  And, there are way too many annoying examples of southern-state, post-college-age delinquents who whine and whisper excessively in a desperate plotting way that just grinds the gears.  [I could easily skip over ninety percent of each show just to get to the good stuff which mainly consists of what are called “competitions” or “comps.”]

Last year, my heart went out to this crazy blonde gal.

bigbro17_heart-meg-1

There were two other contenders who lacked height but had their “perks.”  Shelli was the perfect blend of beauty and brains and had a good chance of winning.  Jackie…was just Jackie; plenty of assets, but my gut told me (as it usually does) not to fall too quickly for someone so “flashy.”

And, that verges into what I consider the shallow, exploitative side of the show which surely dives into some contractual pool any sane soul would not likely want to share with the media sharks.  [But, we the viewers don’t really see any of that; do we?  We just get the scandalous pictures.]

Anyway…

This year, these two exceptionally GORGEOUS young women stopped my heart.  Both suffered the same fate and are very close in age.  Both didn’t display exceptional brains or strength but sure have plenty of beauty.

bb18_heart-bridgette-dunning_850x700-1

A “traveling nurse.”  [Someone explain that job to me, please.]  Her radiant smile and lively hair just wash away any doubts you may have about her.

bb18_heart-zekiyah-everette_591x691-1

A “preschool teacher.”  Her eyes and lips are both comforting pillows and boxing gloves.  Her long, luxurious hair (hopefully all-natural) is the towel that fans you after losing a fight.

Both masters of expression appear like graceful pixies from some enchanted garden who dance over flowerbeds.  Neither is the easiest to catch, but their sweet voices call to you like the ocean.

My heart aches from confusion.  Part of me wants to jump through the TV screen and save the beaut–join the game.  Every year, I leave (watching) the show disappointed.  I should hate such exploitation.  An activist mind like Bridgette’s (a “feminist”) should probably not find interest in the whole mess, either.  But, she auditioned for it.  And, I am utterly smitten with her.  [I was smitten with Julie Chen, the US host, from year one!]

juliechen-bigbrother-cbs_greetaudience-animated-2

All I can do is let it wash out of my system like the tide taking part of the beach away every summer.

And, in case you are thinking I should get or have permission to use these images, I’ll just let Bridgette explain.

bb18_bridgette_dunning_cozyhat-goaheadshesays-animated-4

“Go ahead,” says Bridgette.

[She is just absolutely lovable.]

Well, there you have it.

My Latest Affair with Shirley MacLaine

*****
From “The Many Loves of Writingbolt”
*****

shirley-maclain-middleage-mini-2gjon-mili-shirley-maclaine-as-irma-in-motion-picture-irma-la-douce-directed-by-billy-wilderdownton-abbey-shirley-maclaine-martha-levinson

******

Ah, Shirley MacLaine. I hardly know you. But, please accept the Terms of my Endearment. I know you’re considerably older on paper, but don’t turn to Steel, yet, Magnolia. [I know I wrote something earlier about Irma la Douce but can’t–for whatever reason–find it.]

As I sit here gazing at your picture, I ask myself…what IS your natural/real hair color?  And, why haven’t we met sooner? Or, maybe we have. No, I think I’d remember that unique face of yours, those smiling, cunning eyes, that pixie nose and those delicate lips. Yet, I can think of one person I met in high school who now reminds me of you.

When I first became acquainted, you were a small sprite with short reddish hair and a nice voice, already showing signs of aging and talking about reincarnation. Coming from my religious background, this, of course, sparked stern stares and muttered judgements which steered me away from your movies. Cripes. I was a just a kid when you were romancing Jack Nicholson. And, I had no interest in seeing you with the guy who I last saw chasing people through a haunted hotel.

But, within the past year, I have exposed myself to two of what may be new favorite movies. In both, you don’t seem small, at all, and have dark brown hair most of the time. You could say I’ve fallen for you twice. If nothing else, they are glorious catalogs of colorful costumes and some odd hairdos, two of my favorite subjects to share with women.

You are quite the mistress…a nymph, Geisha or prostitute. At least, on film. You flutter in and out of famous men’s lives, ever the enchanting companion with zany bursts of wit. And, you do it all without the gratuitous sex scenes of more recent films. By the time the story ends, I forget what I am doing and fear for my sanity. Are you the Blossom of my Bliss? Or, have I been Bewitched?

Oh, Shirley, that name does not suit you. But, seriously, without it, who would you be? Obviously, someone else. Maybe a Jean. Maybe a Kelly (though I’d prefer the former).

I get scared when I see the way you describe yourself. One of the Used People? A Desperate Character? What was the Turning Point in your life? Are you so lost that you’re just Waiting for the Light, sending Postcards from the Edge?

Surely, Madame, you have the capacity to make me feel like a creative Newman. Or, are the characters you portray nothing like the real you? If what I read of your astrology is accurate, the characters I have seen are not far off. I know you were not Winterbourne, Ms. Taurus Dog. But, what the movies seem to miss or make light of are the negative aspects, the potential for possessiveness, judgmental/fickle behavior, stubbornness, distrust and hypochondria. Traits that could manifest in myself. Does that make us mirror enemies or sympathetic soul mates?

If I were to get swept up in your whimsical essence and end up just one of many lovers, I might be blessed with stories of traveling the world and fulfilling our wildest dreams. Or, I might be a sad, penniless Lemmon on some street corner in France. But, What a Way to Go.

Send a little Sweet Charity my way, please. Paint me a masterpiece. Put on one of those wonderful costumes and join me for a spin on the dance floor. Fly me to the moon. Pour me a champagne glass overflowing with your bubbly charm. Color me pink with joy. Sit with me on the chaise longue beneath the Evening Star and share your fantasies. Remind me the importance of being humble before we strike it rich with love.

~Sincerely,
Writingbolt, your newly infatuated fan
XOXO

P.S. Stop Wrestling Ernest Hemmingway and step into the ring with me.

Images (from left to right):  Relatively how I first recall seeing her as a kid…How I fell in love with her from my first movie viewing of her earlier years in film…How she recently appeared on Downton Abbey

*
What a Way to Go, 1964, featuring Paul Newman, Robert Mitchum, Gene Kelly, Dean Martin, etc. In this film, Shirley is an eccentric widow telling a male therapist tales of all the husbands that died and left her rich. Paul Newman is a crazed painter who uses machinery to make his masterpieces according to the records he plays. Shirley has a fabulous collection of costumes and some odd hairdos.

Irma la Douce, featuring Jack Lemmon. In this film, Shirley is a bubbly, semi-naive prostitute in France, known for her straight face. She crosses romantic paths with a cop. Their interaction eventually costs him his job, forcing him to adopt a secret identity, elude a dangerous pimp and win her back from himself with the help of a mysterious bartender.

Sweet Charity, 1969, featuring Ricardo Montalban and Chita Rivera (among others). In this film built around a Bob Fosse musical, Shirley is a somewhat naive redhead, a diehard optimist and “hostess” at one of the lesser “gentleman’s clubs” in New York who likes to tell tall tales when life throws her another lemon. After being pitched off a bridge by the man who tattooed his name on her arm, she hooks up with a wealthy Italian actor and, later, a complicated shy guy in the insurance business named Oscar who almost marries her. [Oscar and I seem quite similar. There’s an alternate ending on the DVD I found, along with a few other interesting bonus features.]

What a Way to Go…and, Shirley, More to Come Soon Enough

*****

Just saying I watched “What a Way to Go” yesterday.  And, I am once more smitten with Shirley MacLaine.  Yep, my first time…watching this movie.  Second, fall after seeing Irma la Douce…twice.  😛

More on this, sooner than later.  I am overdue for a “The Many Loves of __” (Dobie Gillis) post series.

Feel free to share your thoughts on Shirley/her films.  Or, start a discussion in my Chat Cafe.

I’m just going to sit here and daydream whilst those I babysit run amok……….
