Happy Year of the Earth Dog 2018/4718

*****

Friday, February 16, 2018 (4718) is the beginning of the Chinese New Year, the year of the (brown/black) Earth Dog.  [I’m just letting you know (in advance).]  What does that have to do with the price of tea in China, you ask?  I’m not sure.

But, it’s a good year for both building up investments and security and, if you have faith, feeling secure (provided your honest and a dog’s friend).  Put more money into retirement savings.  Cash in on stocks.  Buy or sell property.  Enjoy the fruits of interest/dividends.

If you own a dog, treat him or her right.  Don’t neglect the dog.  Don’t send your dog away.  But, don’t spoil the dog, either.  Healthy care is a healthy investment in your four-legged friend (or three-legged if the poor thing lost one).

The Dog guards against the vices of the world.  It has no tolerance for thieves, doubt, greed and/or any behavior that causes division (such as racism or sexism).  Thus this is a year you’ll see plenty come to justice for misdeeds.

And, this is a time to spread good will, share the wealth/crops and, if you’re good boys and girls, receive some from others.  Don’t forget to give thanks to any kindness you receive.  [I am also not sure what makes this different from other years.  Every year, it would not be a bad idea to be kind to others.  However, it would be wise to not give more of yourself than is sensible.  Do not leave yourself at risk of exhaustion or going broke.  DO NOT GAMBLE.]

Happy Chinese New Year, Fire Rooster 2017/4715

*****

This year, Chinese New Year falls on a Saturday.  And, I may not have another opportunity to post these this week.  So, you get to scrutinize and potentially pass them around a few days early.  Enjoy.

^ Roosters like to be tidy, efficient and productive (even if they tend to be extravagant and work less consistently than their neighbors, especially oxen); so it’s good advice if you don’t want to upset the roosters in your life.  However, this year, they may feel free to party and celebrate who they are.  Their friends may want to watch their wallets/purses (unless being friends with a rooster brings unusually good luck).chinesenewyear2017-firerooster_postcard-ap-2-1j

^ In the west, the moon cycle’s Chinese New Year is veiled by the solar New Year.  Roosters are considered nature’s alarm clocks, signaling the start of a new day.  So, here the fire/sun rooster is rising like a firecracker to signal the new year at daybreak.chinesenewyear2017-4715-firerooster_postcard-ap-2c-1j

^ In the east, Chinese New Year follows the cycle of the moon.  The fire/sun rooster signals the start of a new day/year, shooting past the moon like a firecracker.  Good morning.

Happy Chinese New Year 2016

chinesenewyear4714-firemonkey-spotlight_postcard-ap-1CJ

It is said that monkey years are no fun/trouble for those born monkey years because the spotlight is finally on the ones who get away with mischief every other year.  This year is the year of the red/fire monkey (2016 in the west, the solar astrology year, and 4714 in the east, the lunar astrology year).  Other monkey years (just add/subtract 12):  2004 wood, 1992 water, 1980 metal, 1968 earth…

Punny Chinese Astrology, Humorology

firesnake-woodrabbit_twinflames_RGwallpaperap2

Yesterday, while verbally scuffling with members of my family, puns involving Chinese astrology animal signs popped from our mouths. The one that stuck with me was this.

“Shut your mouse, no bunny asked you.”

[In regards to how a Rat year can sometimes bite off more than it can chew and irk a Rabbit.]

The response was amusing enough to send me pondering other possible and fitting combinations (if you generally know how these signs pair up or know of two people with certain signs and how they get along).

Another I came up with was for a Rabbit year with a Tiger year. I thought it might make a nice e-card or valentine.

“Let’s paws to compare notes before we stripe up something new.”

[‘Not quite as snappy. Some say a Tiger year and a Rabbit can click like yin and yang. Each takes different risks and sees things differently. Others say the two may bore each other (for whatever reason).]

Or, how about…

“I’m all ears when you growl my name, but sometimes you just roar me.”

[Including what I just said above about boring your partner, here the Rabbit likes when Tiger puts on the charm but is turned off when the latter is too loud or bold, usually making a scene.]

Can you think of any other clever pairings of Chinese animal signs? Share them here.
