Happy Fathers Day, June 17th

*****

‘Not sure why, but when I saw this picture in a recent viewing, Fathers Day came to mind.  It’s the new father receiving shocking word of his partner’s pregnancy.

On another personal note, I cannot say I will ever have the chance to be the father on such a day.  There will be no grills or cars with bows on them waiting for me.  No cookouts in my honor, most likely.  Nor do I take much pleasure in doing anything special on this holiday.  I feel more sorry for my father than I care to celebrate him.

And, what he wants from me this weekend is outside my comfort zone.  As much as I want to be the good son and do as he wishes, I feel a little selfish yet deserving of being that way after my experiences, not feeling like going out of my way this year to make him happy.  But, I won’t be disrespectful or start any fights, either.  Call it a peaceful distance if need be.  Peace is better than conflict or tension.

New Novel in the Works

*****

I’ve been commissioned to write a novel about my wondrous relationship with the lovely Taylor Swift.** It’s a love story. So, when I ask you to support me in my effort to get it published, just say yes. [Ha.]

It’s called *The Taylor and the Writingbolt.* But, my agent and one publisher said “Writingbolt” should be two words, like lightning bolt.

They also wondered why I misspelled “Tailor.” I told them it’s a little joke and that I’d work in how she fashions various things, like weaving compelling lyrics and grooming her image.

I was looking at this one picture of Taylor the other day, and it got me thinking of cover designs and an old love song.

So, I whipped up a few dozen variations of a theme. Let me know what you think of these samples. I think most of them are quite professional-looking and mildly amusing.

**Commissioned in my dreams. This is just me fantasizing about living with this fine young woman and having her help me write a glorious epic based upon our real relationship, sitting by a sunlit window overlooking lush greenery or a placid beach.

Obsessed?  Maybe.  But, definitely inspired.  It’s amazing what a lil infatuation will do.  Imagine what shared love would bring.  😀

More Honey Love

*****

Back on my Cutey Honey kick, I composed a side-by-side anime-like image of myself with the lovely Honey Kisaragi from the 1990s OVA mini-series.

This then motivated me to turn a pair of dancing silhouettes into a related image which spawned a variation of old prose.  You know that bit that goes something like…

How do I love thee?  Let me count the ways…

And, here are the varieties of love that came to my mind.

And, I’ll throw in a variation of one just for good measure (because I really like the idea of making a mess with chocolate or mud for some reason).   Note how I worked in Honey’s go-go boots, dress and hairstyle, along with the rose which is used at times as the weapon of Sister Jill.

A quick, off-the-cuff explanation of each image…

Types of love:

@ Starry-Eyed Love: A) When you fall madly infatuated with a celebrity, imagining yourself embracing that person. B) When you see stars (struggle to see) after kissing someone, letting you know this person is someone special (or just a really good kisser). C) When you fall madly in love with someone’s first appearance and lose awareness of your surroundings.

@ Radiant Love: When you see and/or feel a light growing around you and the one(s) you love, filling you with *comforting* warmth.

@ Steamy Love: When intensely interacting with the one(s) you love makes you sweat; when sexual chemistry between lovers singes the skin.

@ Bubbly Love: When you feel like kissing someone and laughing/smiling at the same time; love that makes you undeniably giddy.

@ Messy Love: When you don’t care what happens to your appearance or surroundings while physically expressing your love, literally getting messy in the process.

@ Flowery Love: When you shower the one(s) you love with romantic/affectionate favors and/or gestures, often letting others know about the relationship. [IE Sending someone flowers at their workplace where every coworker and boss can see them.]

@ Smotherly Love: When you hold the one(s) you love prisoner while expressing your love, keeping them (and yourself) from completing daily tasks and interacting with others.

@ Energizing Love: When sharing an intimate moment with someone gives you either a jolt or an abundance of energy, capable of rejuvenating skin, hair, etc; when a kiss gives you that special spark.

@ Group Love: Polygamous love; when you love more than one person at a time and do not want any love interest to feel slighted, dividing your attention to each, adequately.

Short Story Writing Challenge: Tell-Tale Silhouettes

carmensandiego-ish-silhouette-circle-10pk_ap-CSPP-mini-2

****

I had the impulse to craft some Carmen-Sandiego-ish, Dick-Tracy-ish silhouettes one day. Here is a sampler.

I propose a small creative writing challenge to those who happen to stop by this post. Can you conceive a short story that takes our female detective/explorer from the first image on the left to the last image on the right? Where did she go that day? What happened along the way? And, what did she discover at the end?

Place your (very) short story here in the comment section. [You won’t be glared at for writing a long one, either.]

Digital Painting Sampler 4-26-2018

*****

I’ve been painting up a storm since I purchased Clip Studio Paint Pro (which is the closest software I’ve found to my previous, glorious photo editing program from the turn of the millennium, Photo Studio 2000).  [On that note, I still miss the ability to make text transparent with ease.  If it can be done with CSPP, I have not figured out how.]

I’ve been contemplating opening a separate portfolio/gallery space/account for my personal artworks.  But, I can’t seem to resist sharing a quick sampling.

These two were simpler pieces composed with silhouettes I honed.  The lines are result of a “burst” tool.  And, the rest is from an imaging/paintbrush tool (and text).

Can you guess who the following famous face and TV/movie characters are supposed to be, even if the gender may vary?  [Or, in the case of one image, a famous face posing as a movie character.]  In all of these cases, there should be adequate clues.

Previous to the above, I have been taking my fashion design skills to the next level by upgrading my old MS Paint boot designs.  Here’s just one of the many.  I went all out with the old GI*Joe action figure package back, too, so buyers (should these ever get made into a fashion line) can have collector cards for all of their purchases.  Yeah.  😛  Or, it’s a fun way to advertise the details before purchase.

Apology to the Valiant Poets of this World

*****

Your hearts are bleeding in verse.  It’s your choice of language.  It’s easier than speaking in clear sentences, instead of telling the cold, hard truth.  I get it.  I speak in metaphors, sometimes, and they can boggle the sharpest minds.

It’s just…  And, I’ve said this many times, before.  I’m so sick of poetry.  I’m sick of my own metaphors and creative explanations when they only cloud the minds of those we want to reach.

It’s too easy for a casual reader to breeze by and approve or take a snapshot of something they understand only as their eyes can see/read it.  The creator might get a false sense of appreciation or achievement.

And, while I’d like to peel through so many onions and find the root of your messages, the task brings a little vomit into my mouth.

I used to write poetry in high school.  It might have been well written, but it was depressing, grim crap.  It was the product of a soul coming to terms with an empty social life and childhood.  It wasn’t very cathartic.  And, looking back, I wish I had stuck with the comical limericks about frogs.

So, forgive me if I slight you, dear poets of the world.  [Though one or two of you might be so lucky to have me grace your pages with my wit and even the depths of my heart.]  I just cannot stomach much poetry, anymore.  [Yet, there is so much of it here.]

Maybe one day you’ll reach this stage, too, when you finally get tired of putting lace and blood on pages, stop scrapbooking life and start ripping the hard, cold, raw material from your gray matter and clenching chests.  You’ll wipe away the mime makeup and expose your scars.

I still wear a mask here and other places.  But, that’s…well, it’s just reasonable defense, considering circumstances.  But, if you talk with me “like a real person,” you’ll get what you give…just maybe in a delayed fashion if I don’t warm up to you fast enough.

I’m not one who sees much value in the word “sorry.”  If you’re sorry, you make up for what you regret.  But, I’m saying it now just to let you know why I cannot say anything good about what you have to share…when I know, to some degree, you seek that approval.

I’m sorry I can’t digest much poetry.  And, right about now, I’m at the breaking point.  I’m full.

A Meeting of Beautiful Minds

*****

Inspired by the creative traveling fashionista, Nuraine Sadaf (or as I am presently nicknaming her, Rain), composer of the blog Into Words.

thewarmhandofcompanionship-goddessofferingtoangelicspirit_ap-24001600-5thewarmhandofcompanionship-goddessofferingtoartisticspirit_ap-CSPP-24001600-1B

Considering this may just be a fantasy, I went ahead and made a few variations.  One of which will appear on my About Me page for a touch of romantic humor and continuing inspiration.
